Ways to lower your blood sugar

According to the American Diabetes Association, one in 11 Americans has diabetes and another 86 million adults in America are at high risk of developing type 2 diabetes. What most people don’t realize is that even the smallest steps towards living a healthier lifestyle can drastically reduce the risk of forming this serious condition. It’s important to start moving towards healthier choices by examining one key component, your blood sugar.  Here's are some tips on ways to lower your blood sugar on a regular basis.

  1. Eat more fiber. Aim to eat at least 25-30 grams of fiber per day by way of unprocessed foods.
  2. Eat fresh.  Instead, take advantage of fresh fruits and vegetables.
  3. Get adequate sleep. Sleep impacts a variety of aspects of your health.
  4. Believe it or not, eat more fat. BUT only the healthy sources of fat. Avocados and nuts are foods that lower insulin resistance and improve average blood glucose.
